Book Description

This volume, which is the continuation of two previous volumes published in 1995 and 1998 respectively (ΜΕΛΕΤΗΜΑΤΑ20 and 25), completes the series dedicated to the written sources of Achaean cities. It contains all the Greek and Latin inscriptions of the Achaean cities –with the exception of those of Patras published in a separate volume (ΜΕΛΕΤΗΜΑΤΑ25)– a good number of which were either scattered in small patchy and scarce publications or were unpublished. The cities with the list of their inscriptions are presented in a geographical order, from west to east, with a detailed introductory historical note, which takes account of the literary, epigraphic, monetary and archaeological sources. The classification of the texts follows the traditional practice of the Inscriptiones Graecae and the texts are accompanied by detailed philological and historical commentaries. This volume, along with the other two will be a base and a springboard for further studies on the history of the cities of Achaea from the Archaic period to the end of Antiquity.
