In this collective volume nine authors attempt to approach specific mechanisms of discipline and control from the eve of Greek Revolution, during the 19th century and up to the end of 20th century. The armatoloi, the juvenile justice system, the army, the pre-revolutionary police, the security forces, the University Discipline Board and the psychiatric services are the main focus of the studies, which address a number of issues pertaining to the creation of these mechanisms, their institutional framework, their personnel, their duties, their practices, their impact and their position in the functioning of Greek society.
