This essay explores the decisive involvement of Yiangos Pesmazoglou in the establishment of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (at that time called Royal Research Foundation). The study draws on the archive of Yiangos Pesmazoglou, who was in the late 1950s a member of the Board of the Bank of Greece and Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Athens. The book documents Pesmazoglou’s contribution in raising funds as well as his pioneering role in the initial conception of a research centre and his very able management that aimed at establishing a credible administrative model. The book features a greeting by the INR’s director Paschalis M. Kitromilides and is completed by an appendix. containing Yiangos Pesmazoglou’s correspondence with Leonidas Zervas in 1958.
