Book Description
With two volumes appearing in print in 1987 and 1997, the publication of the third volume of the work Greek painters after the Fall of Constantinople by the Institute of Neohellenic Research is the last outcome of the research project that the late academician Manolis Chatzidakis started in 1985. The volume in hand contains fresh evidence on the post-Byzantine painters, itself the result of research conducted between 1997 and 2010, and comes as supplement to the first volume (on line edition: http://files.ekt.gr/n010330.pdf ) of the series. More specifically, presented therein are new data on the artistic activity of Greek painters from 1450 to 1850 worldwide, the complete cataloguing of their works (portable icons, mural paintings) and the relevant written sources (documents, inscriptions). The study boasts of a long and updated bibliographical list (1200 scholarly books and articles) and of rich photographic material. The publication became feasible thanks to the financial support of the Kostopoulos Foundation and the Ouranis Foundation of the Academy of Athens.
