Book Description
This book is a study of the life and work of Aristoteles P. Kourtides (1858-1928), the first editor of the journal Diaplasis ton Paidon, who was also a widely acclaimed and well-known intellectual, educator and author of children books and popular juvenile books towards the end of the 19th century. Focusing on Kourtides as a public intellectual, the author re-visits the common assumption of Kourtides as a low-profile educator and author of children books and shows that he was much more than that. The book provides a biographical account of Kourtides and of his various publications, as well as a discussion of his views on society, literature, education and public life as presented in his numerous articles.
